Atul Kadian

I build backend systems and the infrastructure under them. Fast, secure, boring to operate.

5+ years on production systems: backend services, the AWS underneath them, and the CI/CD and observability in between. Lately RAG and LLM systems on the same foundations. I travel whenever the work allows.

Selected projects

Things I designed, shipped, and still run, mostly on infrastructure I own end to end.

A minimalist, self-hosted password manager with client-side encryption, built to replace the insecure habit of keeping secrets in WhatsApp or Telegram saved messages. The server never sees a plaintext secret. Open source.

Conversational product discovery on a FastAPI and LangGraph backend. Semantic search over vector embeddings resolves intent rather than keywords, with responses streamed over SSE and cart and conversation state persisted.

Sole maintainer for a year of the AICP custom ROM, adapting an AOSP-based build to run cleanly on device hardware: compiling official community releases, fixing camera and RIL bugs, and maintaining the device tree, kernel and vendor repositories.

Telegram bot that mirrors direct download links and video from a thousand-plus sources into Google Drive, with audio extraction from YouTube. My most-used open source work, at 50 stars.

02 / Experience

Where I’ve worked

Five years building backend services and the infrastructure under them. The through-line is reliability: clear architecture, automation by default, and systems that stay predictable as traffic and teams change.

  1. Mar 2024 - Present

    Senior Software Engineer

    Vision Investments LimitedRemote

Own the backend services and the AWS infrastructure they run on, from data model through deploy pipeline. Led the migration of applications off EC2 instances onto a containerised architecture on Docker and ECS Fargate, cutting operational overhead by up to 40%, and work across networking and cloud infrastructure to keep the platform predictable as it grows.

  2. May 2023 - Mar 2024

    Software Development Engineer II

    PrimathonGurugram, India

Led backend development and DevOps for a healthcare platform built on Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS and React, backed by RDS and running on ECS. Automated deployment and monitoring through GitHub Actions so releases became routine instead of hand-run events.

  3. Jan 2022 - May 2023

    Software Development Engineer I

    PrimathonGurugram, India

Built and shipped backend services in NestJS across client projects, working close to the Linux infrastructure they ran on.

  4. Oct 2021 - Jan 2022

    Software Engineer, Trainee

    MindtreeRemote

First engineering role, working across JavaScript and Selenium test automation.

03 / About

Beyond the résumé

My favourite way to spend a day is driving into the mountains and watching the sun set from somewhere high. No itinerary, nothing planned past that.

Travelling is where I feel most alive. I want to see the whole world eventually, to stand in every kind of landscape and find out what it is meant to make you feel.

The rest of the time I am taking something apart to see how it works. A year maintaining a custom Android ROM, servers I still run myself. Life is a DIY project.
